Do dogs ever worry about skin cancer?
It's finally sunny and warm out, and dumb & dumbest are sporting their new haircuts and sunbathing. Max (labrador) loves his new 'do. Cosmo is still plotting his revenge (afterwards he hid under my jeep for six hours sending sinister glares my way.)
Today I am knee deep in annoying projects that I put off for way too long. Now that company is due to arrive in approximately 32 hours, I have decided to complete them all today! Yeah, I did this in school too, bite me.
I'm currently working on my kitchen "backsplash" area. We were foolish when we built this house and didn't tile it. No, I'm not tiling - yet. I bought some cheap "wallies" to stick on the wall and make it look spiffy. The thing is, I had to paint over all the nasty "backsplash" that I couldn't scrub off. So... Um... How long does it take paint to dry enough to stick stupid little decals on it?
I'll post pics of the before and after if it comes out resembling anything better than a preschoolers project. Otherwise, I'll keep my shame to myself.
Oh, it's also "life on the freakin' farm" day here. Everything from mowing to carting hay and sneezing, while trying NOT to think about what is making that smell from two fields over. You might recall I posted a picture of the new "babies" we had here (three ducklings, two chicks) about a week ago, and then the post disappeared? It's because we had a tragedy. My husband put in the new heatlamp bulb, but didn't adjust the lamp height.
I know a lot of people will joke about this, but for us it was devastating. The worst part was telling my children the next morning what had happened. My children were heartbroken, and in tears. It really is amazing how fragile life is, and how one little screw-up can destroy it.
Anyway, on a positive note - more babies were a'hatchin'! Today we went out to the nest and found an egg well on it's way to hatching. My son was completely amazed that an EGG was CHIRPING at him (they start peeping before they even crack the egg from the inside.)We took pictures. Maybe it's a small and silly thing to everyone else, but to us it was an interesting, and amazing experience.
The first picture is my son holding the egg, which he did for about an hour straight before he realized this was going to take a while. At that point it was "Hey Mom? You're a mom, right? You can hold the egg, and it will be ok. Cartoons?"
The second is about half way hatched. You can actually see the beak sticking out of the shell on the right.

The third is "Quackers" (my son is five, what do you want?) JUST out of the shell. He looks awful, doesn't he? He's all fluffed out and looking cute now, but blogger is freaking out and not letting me add anymore photos. Probably for the best... The non-high-speed-surfers are probably calling me all sorts of colorful names right now anyway.Other than that, that's been my Friday! Crazy stupid projects, and new feathery guests! On the exercise front - well, it isn't happening. You might recall that I was complaining of a inner thigh/groin sprain from the Sunday softball game. It wasn't a big deal, and I worked out the rest of the week for the most part. Until last night.
Last night I kicked the drawer shut on the bottom of my stove with my left foot. I then spent the next five minutes howling in pain. Whatever tiny sprain I once had, is now a full blown "shoot me now" one. As much of a klutz as I am, I didn't realize that my fabulous ways of hurting myself were a bonus. After doing something completely normal and mundane, and then ending in agony... Somehow, I feel cheated that I don't have some marvelous story of my own stupidity to share.
Well, there is always tomorrow!

EDIT (6/17/06) : Here he is all fluffed up. He is doing great, and we had another little baby duckling born this morning. So we now have five ducklings, and one chick (who is feeling very out numbered right now.) We take them out for walks, so I'll get a picture of them all out and trailing after us later this weekend. :)
